A FAM Trip Across Malaysia

A FAM Trip Across Malaysia

Agency/Experiences

Our Project Director Hayley Green has recently returned from an incredible FAM trip across Malaysia. Hosted by Malaysia Airlines, Shangri-La Group and Destination Asia, a jam-packed itinerary was awaiting. Across six unforgettable days Hayley experienced the very best that Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu have to offer. Hayley shares some of her insights here…

Our trip began in Kuala Lumpur, where we stayed at the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur hotel. Located right in the heart of the city, the property is situated within walking distance to prime shopping and entertainment districts. We spent the afternoon exploring the city’s sights on BMW motorcycles – probably one of the coolest and most exhilarating ways to whizz around, and not missing a stop-off at the Petronas Towers for that all important photo opportunity!

During our time in Kuala Lumpur, we really were spoilt for choice when it came to the food (I’m almost certain that I came home at least half a stone heavier!). If I had to pick my favourite dining spot, it would have to be Fuego at Troika Sky Dining – with food made for sharing, delicious cocktails, and stunning panoramic views across the city skyline. The next part of the trip saw us travel to Kota Kinabalu on the island of Borneo. Before taking the 2-hour and 40-minute direct flight to BKI, we enjoyed the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge and all that it had to offer – it’s those little perks that make all the difference! Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu, we were transported in luxury SUV vehicles to the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort where we would spend the next two nights.

The highlight of my time spent in KK was the white-water rafting experience. We spent our Sunday morning on the Kiulu River which took us past quaint villages, scenic countryside, and the rural town of Tamparuli. That evening, the Shangri-La Rasa Ria hosted an incredible private dinner, where we had the opportunity to get up close and personal with some local people who put on an unforgettable show for us.

Our final stop was the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort, where we would spend our final night. We enjoyed a farewell jungle-themed dinner, and it really did feel like we were out in the depths of the jungle. We were immensely impressed that a hotel function room could be transformed into what felt like the real outdoors! To round-off what had been an amazing trip and before heading back to the airport for the journey home, we boarded a beautiful boat at Manukan Island. Our last day was spent enjoying the onboard hospitality, sunning ourselves on the deck and snorkelling in the China Sea.
